I wrote a parody to Mac Davis’ hit song, “It’s Hard to be Humble,” about going out to our favorite watering hole. The song describes me ordering a lager beer, “in my own wooden mug.” See My Lyrics

The Wooden Mug

The wooden mug is a great conversation starter. It’s very fine looking, and we tell people the story of Octoberfest, and how a vendor was selling his home-made wooden beer mugs. Came with a free pint too!

I was going through image files I gathered from everywhere I could think. Old phones, cameras, USB drives. Literally, thousands. And most are not named anything useful, so I have to look at each one.

Suddenly I found these. The first drink from our new wooden mugs! Michelle and I each got one.

Stokesay Castle

  • Details: It sits in the wooded hills of Mount Penn and operates as a fine-dining destination and event venue featuring The Knight’s Pub and The Lord’s Dining Room. [1, 2]

Reading Liederkranz Oktoberfest

  • Location: 143 Spook Lane, Reading, PA 19606 (right near the castle area) [1, 2]
  • What it is: The actual site of the famous annual Oktoberfest, which is widely recognized as one of the largest and oldest authentic German celebrations on the East Coast, frequently voted among the best in the country by USA Today. [1]
  • Details: Features five continuous days of German food, beer, live bands, and artisan vendors. [1, 2]

My wife? She’ll order a Coors Lite.

She knows that the mountains are blue.

For me, I’ll order a Lager.

It comes in my own wooden mug!

The bar-keep treats me so special.
